From 17 to 18 September,Chinese Ambassador Gu Xiaojie visited Sokoto State on invitation. During the visit, Gu Xiaojie met respectively with Governor of Sokoto State H.E. Mr. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and His Eminence Mahammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, Sultan of Sokoto.
When meeting with Tambuwal, Gu Xiaojie pointed out that China attaches great importance to the development of bilateral relations between China and Nigeria. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Nigeria strategic partnership, and China is willing to take this opportunity together with the Nigerian government, to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation. Given the abundant human and natural resources, Sokoto State enjoys huge potential for development. The Chinese side looks forward to strengthening exchanges with Sokoto State and encourages Chinese companies to invest in Sokoto State. Tambuwal said that the cooperation between the Sokoto State and China has made progress in recent years and Sokoto State appreciated the contribution made by Chinese companies to its economic and social development. He also hoped to enhance cooperation with China in various fields such as agriculture, mine industry, leather industry, commerce, power and education, and promised to build a better and safer business environment for Chinese enterprises.
Gu Xiaojie appreciated Sa’ad Abubakar III playing an very important role in the inheritance of traditional culture and promoting social harmony and development. Abubakar said China has been developing rapidly in recent years, and China’s economic capacity has been increasingly strong. Nigeria is willing to learn from China’s experience and strengthen bilateral friendly cooperation.
Gu Xiaojie also visited Sokoto State University as well as some projects being built or managed by Chinese companies. Gu Xiaojie appreciated the contribution made by Chinese enterprises in carrying out the “going out strategy” and China-Africa production capacity cooperation.
